Very good place to be employed. Millwright 1st. We would start every shift with a safety meeting and then get briefed on any jobs that were coming up or that we had to continue from the previous shift. It was a very hot, noisy and dirty place , if you never worked in a steel melt shop then it's hard to discribe.
I spent most of my life there with no regrets, learned mostly everything I know there. The people I worked with was a strange and different breed. You could really trust them with your life but at the same time they were all a little nuts, you almost have to be to work in that type of environment.
But I wouldn't of wanted it any different. We all took the time to work safe and helped each other with jobs and things in and out of the plant.
Working with people for that long of time you developed a bond and that is something I will take with me where ever I go. Not employee friendly. Not a good company. I have nothing good to say about Republic. Okay place to work but you have no life and I was laidoff, good coworkers. But some of the safety issues need to be adressed.
